Compact and easy to fit
Bought this for my 20 month old daughter as a follow on from her maxi cosi iso-fix baby carrier - and it actually seems to take up less space than the baby carrier did!
Jayne and Kirsty were both great with their unbiased advice, and they went through the pros and cons of different makes of seat. Yes, this is one of their more expensive seats, but I didn't feel in any way that they were trying to get me to choose it because of the price, but they advised me that it was the one that met my needs best.
I'm glad that I'd delayed buying a rear-facing set for so long, because when I first started looking, this model wasn't available and what had put me off buying one was how much space other brands would have taken up in my car. I have a 5-door 2005 VW Polo, and I wanted the baby seat to be positioned behind the driver seat for 2 reasons. Firstly, I've found that to have the baby seat behind me, the if I find a parking space where nothing can park on my right, then it's easier to get in and out of the car, rather than having to make sure there's space at both sides of the car to be able to open doors sufficiently (I did have a problem once in a motorway service station carpark once when there was space when I left my car, but by the time I came back the cars on both sides had both parked so close to me that I couldn't open the car doors). And secondly, my parents are both elderly and disabled (and are quite large), so that when I've got either of them in the car, then the passenger seat has to be right back to give them the maximum amount of space to be able to get into the car, so there wouldn't be enough room to put a child seat on that side of the car.
So the Klippan Triofix seemed to be the best choice for my small car. Plus the other "selling points" for us, is that the base can also be used in a car without isofix by using the seat belt to fasten the base, and also the seat can be used both ways round so it can also be like a more traditional forward-facing seat too. I know that the whole point of this seat is that it's rear-facing, but my husband thought our daughter may not like it, so at least I could say to him that if she really doesn't like it, then it can be turned around (not that I intend to do that for a long time!!!!) And also, the seat will convert to a booster seat when our DD is older, so hopefully it will last her for many years to come without having to buy any other seats, so in the long term I see it as a good investment.
I found it a bit tricky the first couple of times I tried to install it, but now I know what I'm doing it's really easy and I find it easier than the maxi cosi baby carrier. My little one seems very content in it, although she looks very upright, she frequently now falls asleep in it, so I presume she's comfortable.
I know that shipping charges would have been free for this seat, but I decided to go and have a look first before buying, even though we live quite a long way away. I'm glad that we did because it was much easier to be shown exactly how to fit it rather than trying to follow an instruction manual.
So overall I'm very happy, and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone with a small car like ours.
Thank you Securatot!
